Botulinum Toxin is a purified protein that comes from the bacterium, Clostridium Botulinum.  This product is produced under strict quality control standards.  Botox works by stopping nerves from releasing a substance, acetylcholine, which transmits messages from nerves to muscles.  When too much acetylcholine is released, muscles become overly active and tense up with spasm and pain.  Botulinum Toxin works by greatly reducing the spasm and pain at the nerve muscle endplate.  Botox usually wears off at between 3-4 months.  The injections are usually done every 3-4 months.
